How to Get That 1950s Dior Shape: Tailoring Secrets w Barbara of Royal Black Couture
This is a strange unholy clash of worlds thank you
Fuck yeah Bernadette. Hurry! Let's fuckin get this!
Clicked on this video cause I spent all day working on my fabric dollls and can relate to this very well as I was working past the night into the day hours to get them done…. The hyper fixation is real and I need to manage it so I can still enjoy it
This video is awesome 👏 Well done 👍
more guinea pigs in interviews please!
I thought that Bernadette's hair was a LOT longer than medium length.
The only social media I have is this. I gave up all other stuff long ago. It's moot point to have any other social media given the circumstances.
People will possibly think I’m gross but I sponge bath every day and shower and wash my hair once a week! The sponge bath consists of warm soapy water in the sink and basically work from public to the less so. I’m fortunate to have lots of curly, hair which isn’t oily. I haven’t noticed anyone avoid contact with me that I can tell. I’m trying to eliminate synthetic fabrics from my wardrobe too. I’m a Boomer so know a lot about austere times but also come from an area where the water supply is limited.
I simply ADORE this woman!!!
So you have chosen Depravity.
I’m going to need Heathcliff to narrate just a bunch of “How It’s Made” type videos Their voice is SO Calming
I love how this is basically my method. But minus the pin curling because my hair already has some curl to it. Clips are so good 🥰 I'd like to try pin curls to get that tighter curl that lasts longer, but my hair is so long that I just accept it will be more wavy than curly by day 3-4.
Many survivalist like muti use. Perhaps you can make a video about sewing with inner strands of paracord, some paracord have different types of thread, also a good video idea would be how to place a custom strand of some recommend thread types back into the paracord. Another main thread survivalist carry is twisted bank line. A recommended bank line size that is useful after untwisting. Lastly thought and recommendation on natural cordage like animals hide and plant based cordage that can be very course. Maybe some processing idea on how to make it more useful for sewing, needle to use, stitch to use, what plant material is a better choice. Just some idea for content that i would also like to see.
People like this are great! I am also 37 years old man, who likes to dress up as much as possible, but I don´t know anybody in my country, who shares the same outlook on the world. Is there a way to meet this woman in person? Or the whole group of peole, who loves this life style? Perhaps some reunuion several times a year or at least once a year? I am really intersted and serious about it! If I could get in touch with this classic woman, I would appreciate it.
I am 67 years old but still use the skills I learned in highschool. In 4 years of mechanical drawing. HOWEVER the designing and drafting of clothing patterns still eludes me. I would love to learn this .
One thing that helps me with thimbles is to squash it because fingers are not round in section. On a tape measure I'll use the 10 inch mark. I carry a Knipex 4" cobra pliers it is an excellent tool
Disagree.. They're not just assumptions. Europeans and North Americans still smell more in the average than South Americans and Africans. Because of habist and cultural aspects. Imagine than a time when House heating and piped water weren't even available for most families..
Absolutely love this case study. Thanks.
Two words. TEAR MENDER. It’s a product from the Great Depression. Great for mending any fabric. Anybody can use it. And it works in the field. Fabric needs to be semi clean and dry. I found the product was used by loggers in the camps to mend torn work cloths. In the apocalypse I don’t expect to find any. But I will be grateful for having the last couple bottles on earth. I hand sew for my daughter’s clothes as needed. But my work clothes and random projects get tear mender. Great video btw
These techniques are very helpful.
try to learn sewing by hands, and then try using machine, and then try using other machines that have different gimmicks, you won't believe how much things can be sewed into different things. once I tried making carbon fibre clothes because I'm hella bored, made it to my size, it's itchy asf lmao
In case anybody out there is a dressmaker and sees this comment hit me up I will pay you an extraordinary amount of money to make me a lingerie dress in my size
Loving it dear! 😘🤗🐻🤗
Do you ever use hair s pray?
This is so interesting. I understood absolutely nothing even though everything made sense.
What I mean to say is that this is a nice informative video even if there is dimension beyond my comprehension
I'm not into any of this and came upon this channel by happenstance , I have absolutely no interest in these topics, but I'm subscribing. Your vocabulary and skill are excellent.
You can wash yourself without getting into the shower or bath your just as clean I think people think it's more time consuming and your not as clean but that's utter rubbish, I mainly wear wool, cotton ,linen and viscose I used natural fibres on my bed ,we were brought up with these, when I was young we had a bath once a week but every evening we had to do a full body wash before bed, we had to wash our hands before every time we ate which people don't seem to do nowadays
I am shaking and in linteral tears about the beauty of this project and exp. the collaboration. Thank you so much for sharing and showcasting this craftsmanship. Hoping to see more of Maayankraj and the Atelier Shikaarbagh in the future.
Did I miss something or did you not use any setter at all?
I dont even sew or have any experience tailoring but I somehow ended up watching this anyway
I whisk 2 eggs up and put straight into my hair. You can keep it in a bowl and use a hair color brush to brush in like hair color to the roots. Then i add the rest to my lengths. I keep in my hair for about 4 hrs.
addicted to my dryer?? try hanging outside in canada anytime other than july/august
It is such a stunning piece. I'm enthralled by its beauty.
Have you ever made a video talking about your favorite stitches and what they’re used for? Or how do you hemmed something to size… or how to patch clothes? Since I would like to get into mending, and figuring out what kind of stitches hold well, or if they’re different stitches for different parts of clothing.
How scandalous! Have some decorum.
Oh Francis! You know we are just getting started. Meheheheherrr
Of course you all know this but for any folks that don't never mix ammonia and bleach in any amount!!!! Nuff said.
I just inherited my grandmother's singer treadle sewing machine, this video is a great resource for me to learn how to maintain it properly. Thank you!
Memories of clothes washing- 1930’s to the 1950’s in the Midwest: Dad owned a restaurant and bar. Mom, Dad and 5 girls lived in a 7 room + 1 full bath apartment “up over”. Mom used a ringer washing machine until 1973, when the girls revolted and bought her a modern washer and dryer. She carried all our dirty clothes to the basement to wash them, then carried them, heavy and damp, back UP to the second floor porch roof to hang them to dry in the sun. In the colder weather she hung clothes indoors, in the basement. My Mom was the hardest working, sweetest, most down to earth person I ever knew, who also loved bright costume jewelry and beautiful purses and hats and who spoiled us girls rotten with shopping adventures all over Chicagoland. She had rock star style and watching her as I grew taught me to be the artistic, crazy fighter that I am…and Dad supported that, and taught us all to be canny, responsible business women, too. Thanks so much, Mom & Dad - you done good by your girls!!💕
My waist is 20 inches..... I feel huge now
Thank you, Barbara. I am in the middle of tailoring a Bar suit and this tutorial was so very helpful!! More videos!!
looks like it was the most beautiful elaborately decorated gown at the event. good for you.
I dont sew, nor have i seen much in my life, nor did i plan to, but i thoroughly loved watching this video and your energy.
I love this design in a dark color. I think a burnt umber would be lovely, too. and charcoal grey, and a dark wine/cranberry, and the silk looks about the same weight as linen. and I absolutely love that the sequins do not look campy in any way. the sparkle is elegance in this gown. Applause, applause.
they say not to use the selvages but I am like you, they are very time-saving in the right positions.
I love backstitching, seems like the seam is more secure and will not become brittle a fast as a straight line seam.
Sorry I’m too distracted by the jacket. That fabric is stunning!
Don't you need one of those weight, twirly things for making thread? That cotton will have a limited lifespan before it rots. Maybe a small piece of oilcloth or something to protect your tools from damp and rust.
For once my messy and curly hair gives me an advantage. I have a constant cloud around my head
Exquisite perfection 🥰
Why don't you do "papillottes" ? It's much more comfortable 🙂
